Our volunteer opportunities in our Ipswich Head Office
In our Ipswich Head Office
People volunteer in our office for many reasons, for some it is to gain experience and for others a way back in to work. It is always good to have current office experience on your CV. You will be using up to date office software including Windows 10 Professional, Microsoft Office, Google for Business and Salesforce CRM.
Some volunteer to give them some structure in their week following retirement, others just because they feel passionately about our work. Whatever your reason, you will be joining a friendly team who will support and encourage you. You will have the opportunity to learn new skills and feel you are making a positive difference.
Val, one of our office volunteers speaks of the fact that her husband volunteered for TWAM, and she thought she might enjoy it too. As she doesn’t have mechanical skills, the admin team seemed a good choice. She speaks of the variety, that there is no such thing as a typical day and that working with a great team of people makes it enjoyable. Through doing the role she has gained an awareness of the difficulties other people have, particularly in Africa and their resourcefulness if given a helping hand and would recommend volunteering so you can play your small part in making this happen!
Below we have detailed the Head Office Admin roles available. Click on the headings for a full role description.
We're a busy little office with lots of phone calls to answer and post to respond to. The work is varied and you will have the opportunity to work across all areas of admin. You need to be comfortable with using computers and ideally be familiar with Microsoft Office. We use Google for Business for day to day admin tasks and Salesforce CRM for record keeping. Induction and training will be given and we don't expect everyone to come in with experience of all our systems. We are a small and friendly team and you can be assured of the support you need.
Jan, our accountant, works with a small team of volunteers keeping our accounts accurate, preparing banking and submitting Gift Aid claims. If you are good with numbers, are used to working with spreadsheets and ideally have some experience of accounting we would love to hear from you.
Lyn, our volunteer Operations Manager would love a few volunteers to help her prepare the shipping documents and keep the containers flowing. This is a very interesting role that involves communicating with our in-country partners and shippers, as well as our main UK based shipping firm. If you are familiar with spreadsheets and are good at detail, then we would love you to talk to us.
We rely on volunteers and this small team process their applications, obtain references and send out resources. It is a good role for people who like communicating and are people focused. It's Interesting, varied and a great way to support TWAM.
Working directly with the Chief Executive, this small team supports the fundraising and communication side of TWAM's work. It involves creative writing of articles for the websites, enews and publicity. You will have the opportunity to work with all the Refurbishment centres to support exhibitions and their own publicity events as well supporting our donors requests for resources and information. A varied and very interesting role for anyone interested in creativity and communication.
In our Refurbishment Centres
The Regional Refurbishment Centres respond to email and phone messages from supporters wanting to donate tools, volunteer collectors wanting tool collections and information and requests from head office. The tasks vary from one centre to another, but are always important. If you would like to help the volunteer manager with the admin, they would welcome you with open arms.
Some of the Regional Refurbishment Centres keep accounts, bank donations and operate petty cash. They need volunteers who are familiar with spreadsheets and who are used to detailed work.
